12 Month Calendar-Semester Project in Google Classroom

12 Month Calendar-Semester Project

Objective: Create a calendar that is accurate and aesthetically pleasing to look at.
How to create calendar: You may use word, excel, or any other tool you find on the computer to create a calendar. Please Google or look at a 2021 calendar so the dates are accurate! I will check this. You can make it personal, and type holidays, people’s birthdays, etc . on the dates. Choose whatever font and color you want for the months. Please make sure it is legible. If you would like to put smaller photos on the calendar part, you may do so.
You need a NEW picture for each month. Please choose a theme for your calendar. This can be personal, or one subject. Examples are, but not limited to: portraits, family, black and white, landscape, etc. Each photo should be edited, and look professional. You can also use collage tools on Ipiccy if you want more than one image on a month. Your pictures will need to be ALL vertical or ALL horizontal.
Put together—punch holes and bind using yarn, fabric, string, etc. so it is functional. You can laminate, put in clear sleeves, or mount on thicker paper for durability. You will need to provide any sleeves or paper to mount on. Hobby Lobby has a very good selection. I do have white tagboard and construction paper if you want to use that.
That is the bare minimum of what you need to do. You can also add additional photos on month part of each month. The small photo should coincide (go with) large photo.

Your calendar can be personal to you (each picturing coordinating with that month) or can be themed (nature, outdoor, farm, landscape, flowers, food, etc.).
You will be graded with a rubric and will be graded on these criteria (25 pts each):
• Creativity
• Continuity (how it flows together)
• Use of background/background colors
• Clarity of photos
• Color of photos
• Correctness of calendar (correct dates, etc. Holidays placed on correct days)
• Craftsmanship/Creativity of calendar as whole (Presentation)
This project will be worth 175 pts! They are due at the END of class on Monday, and you will present them to the class on Tuesday.

3. A Title
4. Several story line titles
5. Issue date

Unity can be achieved by carrying out a common theme in the type styles, photos, story titles and descriptions. Do all the parts work together?
Think about readability, can you read the type against the background? Is the type style readable? Are the sentences too long? Are the titles descriptive enough to make you know what the article is about? Does the type size signify the importance?
Does the photo or photos support the theme? Does the photo catch your eye? Is it too busy or too simple?
How is your effort and craftsmanship? You will need to be selecting, cutting, pasting and cropping. Does your cover look professionally neat?
Layout, how did you arrange all the elements? Is the type all lined up flush left, right, centered? Is the type over the picture or a background? Did you add a banner with the issue date, web site, and cost? Does the layout make it easy to read or confusing?

Movie Campaign in Google Classroom

Movie Campaign

Instructions
Objective: Students will create an ad campaign for a movie that already exists, but can be old or recent. The campaign should include one movie poster (like you would see up in the theaters), one billboard, and one advertisement (like you would see in a magazine, and it must be different from your poster). You must take at least three different photos.

Choose a movie you would like to make a campaign for. This could be a very old movie, or a newer movie.
Come up with your photos/designs. I want you to make a preliminary list of the pictures you would like to take, props/outfits that you would need, color schemes, slogans, etc. You may need to look at examples and research what is all included on a movie poster, billboard, and advertisement. You will be turning this into me for daily points.
Take pictures—you can have a classmate pose, or you can take these pictures outside of class time. Choose a surrounding you would like to use, or a blank wall. This could be a “green screen,” and you may put your people in surroundings or pictures that you already have, or find on the internet.
Create your poster, advertisement, and billboard. Think of what wording needs to be included, and choose correct fonts, colors, etc. Also, be thinking about composition and balance. Think about paper orientation. Should it be vertical, horizontal, etc.?
Upload all three to Classroom.
*You will be graded on creativity, composition, use of photograph, use of wording/slogan, color, and craftsmanship. This will be for a total of 180 points.

Ad Design Portfolio in Google Classroom

Ad Design Portfolio

Instructions

Objective: Students will create a cohesive advertisement campaign creating 4 advertisement designs. Two photos will be designed for billboards, and two photos will be designed for a magazine advertisement. This will be due Monday, at the end of class. You will be presenting these to the class.
Step 1: Choose a product that you would like to do an advertisement campaign for. Ideas are, but are not limited to: food, makeup, fragrance, clothing brand, jewelry line, pop, energy drink, etc. Please be creative with this!
Step 2: Look at examples of billboards and magazine ads online to get ideas for dos and don’ts.
Step 3: Choose an overall theme or slogan for your campaign. This could be something completely new, or you could choose a slogan that the brand has used over time (ex, McDonald’s, “I’m lovin’ it.”) You need to think of a way to cohesively unite all of the pictures, whether that be through same theme, style, color scheme, font, editing, etc. You may want to do all, or some of these things.
Step 4: Take your pictures. You may do this inside, or outside of class. IF you do it inside, I want you to set up a detailed set, and not just take pictures on a table. Think of props, people, backdrops, etc. These pictures need to be highly edited, so don’t leave everything to the last minute.
Step 5: Edit your pictures. I should easily be able to tell what pictures are for the billboard, and what pictures are for the ad. You will have to do a lot of editing, and cut out backgrounds, or add solid color, etc. The magazine ad should have more text than the billboard. Think about appropriate font, text, and color scheme for what you are trying to sell. You will have to explain your choices when you present these.
Step 6: Upload ALL FOUR pictures to Classroom. Print your top picture. You will be presenting these to the class and going over your overall theme and what you were trying to achieve.
*You will be graded on all four photos (color/clarity, composition), creativity (slogan), use of words/text (format, font, etc), overall composition, and color. This will be worth 100 points. YOU WILL RECEIVE LATE POINTS IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS! EVERYONE WILL BE PRESENTING THEIR PROJECT.

Album Art Preliminary Work in Google Classroom

Album Art Preliminary Work

Instructions
Please answer the following questions (if your ideas change, that's okay):

Band or musician you're designing the art for.
Album/CD you're designing for (not just one song, the whole album. you may need to do some research).
Your three ideas: What are you taking pictures of, and what edits will you do.
Due at the beginning of class Monday. Please take pictures over the weekend. I don't want to see a bunch of pictures of the art room or school. I do have objects that could possibly work but please be creative.

Due:

Word Photography in Google Classroom

Word Photography

Instructions
Process:

Find object that could become letters. Please be creative. If you do all pencils or something to make a letter, you will lose points for creativity. These objects could be all different sizes, because you can shrink the picture down.
Choose a word—this word must have at least four letters. It could be a first or last name, or just a word that has meaning to you.
Edit the photos. The photos should have a consist theme. You could do color, black and white, sepia tone, etc. You could do more of the wilder edits as well. Just keep a consistent theme with each picture. Make sure the background is blurred or not distracting.
Put all of the photos of each word on a separate document. You could do a collage form on ipiccy, or simply put the pictures on word. You will probably want some sort of frame or border around each picture. Please print these horizontally, so that the word reads from left to right. You will upload one to Classroom(which you could just put on word), and print one. You could print out individual photos (small) and glue them with spacing onto paper or print it all as one. You want to make sure you print it in landscape view if you do it that way.
Glue the photo onto a black or colored piece of paper for a bit of a frame.
You will be graded on readability (can I tell what the word is)—10 points, Each photo (composition, color, focus, clarity)—80 points, creativity—5 points, and craftsmanship (gluing of the picture onto paper)—5 points.. This is worth a total of 100 points, and you can earn up to 20 points for the additional extra credit. This is due at the end of class Friday. Below are linked below. *If you can't print you can put both on Google Classroom.

Drawing Over Photography in Google Classroom

Drawing Over Photography

Instructions
You will create two different photographs using two different methods. Each photograph will have a drawing over it. I want you to use photos that you've taken. They could be ones that you have turned in for a portfolio assignment.
Method 1:

Draw a picture, object, image that goes with a photo that you've taken. This can be more of an outline, or you can get more in depth with the drawing. I probably wouldn't completely shade or color in because it will be an overlay with the photo.
Take a picture of the drawing and upload it to ipiccy. You can edit the drawing any way you would like.
Cut out the drawing. There should be no background of the paper, just the drawing itself.
In layers put the drawing over the photo of your choice. You can play with fading or different edits to get it the way you want. Save photo.
Method 2:
Upload photo to ipiccy (different photo from the first one). Go to the paint edit. You will draw your picture using the paint tools you can use the brush, pencil or create lines and shapes for a design. This could be an overall design, or drawing of something. Save and upload to Google Classroom.
*After you upload both pictures I want you to type which method you liked better and why. Attached are examples. You will be graded on composition, drawing (not harshly..I know this isn't a drawing class), color, creativity.

Due:

Text in Portrait Photography in Google Classroom

Text in Portrait Photography

Instructions
You will partner up with someone. You need to take a portrait of them. Less background is more effective. Over your model's face/clothing, you will type a quote or some sort of sentence that is descriptive of the person.Interview them and find out their likes and dislikes. Here are the steps to achieve this: 1. Take picture (plain background/wall works best). 2. Upload to ipiccy, and go in layers. In vector mask, cut the person out. On the person, you need to add the text, play with transparency, so the words look like they belong on the person, and not just overlayed. You may need to play with size, text, etc.so that it fits. If anyone finds a way to curve the letters, please share this with the class. Once you have it they way you want it, you need to save it and add a background (solid color or texture, etc). You may do any other edits you would like as well. This is time consuming, and I want you to put the time/effort into this. Below are examples. You will be graded on the photo, use of text, color, and creativity.

Due:

My Other Self in Google Classroom

My Other Self

Your next assignment is called "My Other Self." I would like you to take pictures outside of the classroom. You will choose one background (living room, bed room, outside, etc.) and have one person model several times, doing several different things. Example: In the living room a person could be watching TV, eating, reading a book, taking a nap, etc. You will cut them out (besides one that you can use in your background), and put them all on the same scene. You will NOT need to fade the people. I would like to have these printed and uploaded to Google Classroom. You will be graded on composition, creativity, use of cut outs (neatness of cut outs), clarity/color, for a total of 40 points. This will be a portfolio grade. You need to have a minimum of four poses, but you can do more. Attached are examples.

Due:

Time Sequence Photo in Google Classroom

Time Sequence Photo

Time Sequence Photo: This assignment is to be printed (if you can), and uploaded to Google Classroom on Monday before class. You will take a pictures of someone doing an action (walking, jumping, getting a drink of water, cartwheel, etc..be creative). You are going to put the pictures together as one, and they should be faded and gradually get darker to show the action. You may use someone in class and do this outside. You will have to have the background be completely the same if you are going to match them up in layers on ipiccy. Otherwise, you can do a cut out on ipiccy. You will be in layers, go to vector mask, click on the points that you want to cut out, and when you are done, up the smoothness to 24 or 25. You then apply the mask. The one picture of the action that is the darkest can be your background. Below is an example. The part that is farthest away will be the lightest and then gradually get darker going towards the action. You will do this by fading. This will be worth 50 points and you'll be graded on composition, neatness of cutouts, fading, and overall light, shadow, and clarity of the photo.
